The Coalition for Fair Effective Tax Rates issued the following statement:
The Coalition for Fair Effective Tax Rates commends the U.S. Senate for passing a budget resolution, a vital step in the process of passing tax reform. Now that both the House and Senate have approved budget outlines, the two versions need to be reconciled as soon as possible so that tax reform can get rolling. Americans need and want tax reform. House and Senate negotiators should move quickly to devise a final budget plan so comprehensive tax reform can begin moving through Congress. We urge lawmakers to view tax reform through the lens of effective tax rates, the amount businesses or individuals actually pay in taxes expressed as a percentage of their income. Businesses should not be subject to vastly different effective tax rates if they earn roughly the same amount of money. The now-wide disparities in effective tax rates paid by various industries should be eliminated through comprehensive reform.
About the Coalition:
The Coalition for Fair Effective Tax Rates is a diverse group of national, regional and state associations representing more than 1,500,000 businesses, both large and small, whose mission is to educate Congress and key stakeholders that tax reform should be viewed through the lens of effective tax rates, the amount of taxes businesses actually pays expressed as a percentage of income. The Coalition intends to use the metric of effective tax rates to bolster the case for comprehensive tax reform that broadens the tax base while lowering tax rates for corporations and pass-through businesses that pay taxes using individual tax rates.
