Coalition for Fair Effective Tax Rates Commends Chairman Kevin Brady, the House Ways and Means Committee and Republican Leaders for Producing a Tax Reform Plan

The Coalition for Fair Effective Tax Rates issued the following statement:

The Coalition for Fair Effective Tax Rates applauds Chairman Kevin Brady, the House Ways and Means Committee and Republican Leaders for producing a promising tax reform plan. Our Coalition has long supported comprehensive tax reform of the kind that the chairman unveiled today and has urged lawmakers to view reform through the lens of effective tax rates, the amount that businesses actually pay in taxes expressed as a percentage of income. Industries now pay widely disparate effective tax rates, which unfairly distorts economic activity. Businesses should not pay vastly different effective tax rates when they earn roughly the same amount of money. We believe the new plan is an important step in reducing this gap. We hope lawmakers will use effective tax rates to gauge the success of their reforms as they move through the legislative process.

About the Coalition:

The Coalition for Fair Effective Tax Rates is a diverse group of national, regional and state associations representing more than 1,500,000 businesses, both large and small, whose mission is to educate Congress and key stakeholders that tax reform should be viewed through the lens of effective tax rates, the amount of taxes businesses actually pays expressed as a percentage of income. The Coalition intends to use the metric of effective tax rates to bolster the case for comprehensive tax reform that broadens the tax base while lowering tax rates for corporations and pass-through businesses that pay taxes using individual tax rates.
